As a part of Big Lake, an area roughly 17 kilometres northwest of downtown Edmonton, Starling was originally known as Neighbourhood 2 of the Big Lake Area Structure Plan, but has been known as Starling since October 2010. Nearby Access to World Class Parks

Situated lakeside at Big Lake, there is arguably no better neighbourhood in Edmonton for convenient access to parks and green spaces. The Red Willow Trail System at Big Lake is great for walking and biking, and is located on the eastern shore of Big Lake. Lois Hole Provincial Park is also located nearby, while Riel Recreation Park is located just north of Sparling on the lakeshore. For golf lovers, Glendale Golf & Country Club is located just south of Starling. Starling is bordered by Anthony Henday Drive to the south, 137th Avenue to the north, 199th Street to the west, and Ray Gibbon Drive to the east. The Yellowhead Highway is located just south of the neighbourhood, and provides an easy access route to downtown Edmonton and Sherwood Park. Residents can reach Northwest Edmonton quickly using LeClair Way, and Anthony Henday Drive provides access to northeast Edmonton and west Edmonton. The City of St. Albert is located north of Starling, just across 137th Avenue. Commuters in Starling can take bus route A1 from Heritage Boulevard and Harwood Drive, which connects with bus route 201 to take commuters to downtown Edmonton. This route runs every hour and the trip takes roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Nearby Schools Just North of Starling

There are several schools of different levels serving the area of Starling, located just north of LeClair Way and east of Big Lake. These schools include Wild Rose Elementary School, Robert Rundle Elementary, Albert LaCombe Catholic Elementary School, and Sir George Simpson Junior High School.

A Growing Community for Young Families

As a relatively new community, the population of Starling is still being assessed as it grows. Starling at Big Lake is a recently completed development that is home to young professionals and families. The neighbouring community of Trumpeter had a population of 160 as of 2012, while the city of St. Albert had a population of 61,466 people in 2011.

Exciting Events and Festivals in St. Albert

Though annual festivals and events are generally held near downtown Edmonton, there are a few notable events throughout the year held in the neighbouring city of St. Albert. Among the list are the week-long Rock'n August Festival and Canada's largest outdoor Farmer's Market, which is held from June to October each year. Living a quiet life in a modern community with easy access to Alberta's surrounding nature has never been more suitable than it is in Starling, Edmonton.
