Sherwood is a smaller neighborhood covering 149th Street to 156th Street East and West, and 92nd Street to 95th Street South to North of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This area is dotted with large beautiful trees. Scenic mountains are seen from anywhere in the neighborhood. The changes of the seasons are full and mystical at this location. Sherwood was originally part of Jasper Place, a vibrant and spectacular town, prior to 1964. Edmonton merged with many of its neighboring communities, creating a larger government and a larger city. Sherwood was from then on part of Edmonton as well as all of Jasper Place communities. There is now a Jasper Place neighborhood located in Edmonton that is a unique place to visit for dinner.
Sherwood does not share the, pre World War II, dated history as much as some of the surrounding neighborhoods. The development of Sherwood did not blossom until much later than some of the other local communities. It was the end of World War II that landed Sherwood into a building boom.
Most homes that were built were single family dwellings. Sherwood does offer many other styles of living such as apartments, condominiums, row houses, and others. Just about half of all the homes in Sherwood were built just after World War II through the 1960’s. Developments started to slow down going into the ‘70” and has maintained a slow rate of development thereafter. Another wonderful thing about Sherwood is that people move here to invest in life. The majority of the homes in the community are owner occupied. There is also a number of rental homes available that are well maintained and in a beautiful setting.
Sherwood does not have any schools within the bounds of the neighborhood. The community is mostly homes for families and individuals. Sherwood Elementary School, operated by the Edmond Public School System, is located to the north in the adjacent neighborhood of West Jasper Place. Most of the surrounding communities are strictly residential communities. A restaurant or a small local shop may be found here and there in this part of Edmonton. Mostly, Sherwood is a place to come to when it is time to relax and let go at home.
Since Sherwood is strictly a residential community residents can travel South west to utilize Meadowlark Health and Shopping Center in the next community over, which is just as beautifully laid out as Sherwood. If some shopping is needed, Jasper Gates Shopping Center is located to the North in another neighboring community, West Jasper Place.
Other communities in the area include; Westridge, Rio Terrace, Oleskiw and Lynnwood
