It is often said that a place will tell you a lot about the character of the people who live there. This is true about Ramsay Heights. This neighborhood which is located in the Southwest part of Edmonton has proven that it along with the people who live there is a lot of heart.
The neighborhood was named for Walter Ramsay who was the city's first commercial florist as well as a teacher. Most of the development in the neighborhood occurred in the 1970's and 1980's when the price of land was real low and people were looking to build in mass quantities. In fact 48% of the development occurred in the 1980's while about 3% of building was completed in the 1990's.
Like other parts of the city the most common type of construction was the single family dwelling which accounted for roughly half of the residences that were built in this time frame. The next popular type of residence was the low rise apartments which consisted of a little less than half of the remaining residences.
The neighborhood is served by one school, in 1999 the neighborhood experienced a landslide that destroyed three homes and caused several thousands of dollars in damage. While this problem with possible future landslides has not been resolved home values in the area are still quite high. There has never been a better time than now to claim a spot of beauty that you will be able to enjoy for years to come, and your kids will be able to pass on to their kids.
