Many people tend to overlook one of the best kept secrets that is in the greater Edmonton area and that is the neighborhood of Ozerna. This neighborhood tends to get bypassed because of its small quaint style of living.
The neighborhood is located in the Northeast part of Edmonton. The City of Edmonton formally divides the area into two neighborhoods, Mayliewan and Ozerna. Most times the two neighborhoods are sometimes collectively referred to as if they were one neighborhood.
Ozerna is bounded on the west by 82 Street, on the east by 66 Street, on the north by 167 Avenue and on the south by 153 Avenue. The west half of Ozerna is Mayliewan and the east half is Ozerna. The line separating the two neighborhoods is located at approximately 73 Street.
To the south of the Ozerna, along 66 Street, is Londonderry Mall, which is a major shopping centre for people in the neighborhood.
When it comes to Housing in both neighborhoods predominantly the choice among most residents is single family dwellings with almost all (97%) of the homes being of this type. Ozerna has a significant portion of residences (10%) in walk up apartment buildings and duplexes. Substantially all the residences (97%) in both neighborhoods are owner occupied according to a past municipal census.
There is a single school in Mayliewan, St. John Bosco Elementary School, operated by the Edmonton Catholic School System. There are no schools in Ozerna at this moment; there has been talk in the past to add an elementary school for the growing population of the neighborhood.
Ozerna's surrounding neighborhoods include: Schonsee, Mayliewan, Matt Berry and Kilkenny.
