Named after the Ottewell family, who were early pioneers who settle in Edmonton in the 1880's, lies the residential neighborhood of Ottewell. Ottewell is one of the larger neighborhoods in Southeast Edmonton, and consists predominantly of single family homes. Ottewell has homes of different eras with construction ranging from WWII through 1980.
While most of the homes here are single family there are apartments and duplexes available as well. About 3/4 of the homes in Ottewell are owner occupied while the remainder are rented by tenants.
There has been continued interest in this neighborhood due to its location and the track record of home values here. While there are occasionally homes available there are also several residents who have made their home in Ottewell a bit more long term.
Surrounding neighborhoods include: Holyrood, Idylwylde, Kenilworth, Forest Heights, and Gold Bar.
Designated schools for Ottewell are: Braemer Public School, Clara Tyner Elementary, and Ottewell Junior High.
Ottewell is all about conveniences and aims to please all. There is shopping available in the north part of the neighborhood at Capilano Mall, which also has a library. Additionally there is shopping in the southern part of the neighborhood at Ottewell Plaza, which has a variety of shops and a grocery store.
