McKernan is a residential neighborhood named after James McKernan, and located in Southwest Edmonton Alberta, Canada. This neighborhood used to be a part of Strathcona, and is a somewhat older neighborhood by Edmonton standards. A majority of the construction in McKernan occurred after WWII.
There is a fairly neutral mix of homes in McKernan, with most of them being single family homes or duplexes. McKernan is a very popular rental location with a large portion of the homes here being rented.
There continues to be a lot of interest in McKernan and there are lot of longer term residents here and quite a few newer residents as well. Most of the residents in McKernan enjoy a wide variety of activities, from hiking, and biking to some of the best shopping and dining around.
Designated schools are as follows: McKernan Elementary, McKernan Junior High, and Strathcona Senior High.
