When one reaches the inner city of Edmonton, Alberta, you could be in the community known as McCauley. The community is named after the first mayor of Edmonton, Matthew McCauley. This inner city community is literally just northeast form the core of Downtown Edmonton. It also borders Boyle Street, Spruce Avenue and the Central McDougall area. It truly has an inner city feel.
A fun fact about Edmonton is that it used to be famous because of all the religious buildings built in such a small area. Meaning there are many faith groups represented in this inner city community. So, if interfaith dialogue is what you are looking for, then McCauley might be for you.
However, there are many other features which make McCauley a nice neighborhood. McCauley's general location is one great attribute. It is very close to the downtown core; meaning, one can easily enjoy all the luxuriates of a big city has to offer. Someone can easily enjoy a café and then take in a play or symphony. Plus, the potential to grow as a student is close by. Edmonton houses the University of Alberta and two other institutions of higher education.
McCauley has it own public school and also a catholic school as well. It is the home of the Commonwealth stadium, plus has a public transit terminal to make all you're traveling around the city easier. There is the Joe Clarke Athletic Grounds and the Giovanni Caboto Park that a resident can take advantage of. If these services do not seem to intrigue you, then there is another fun place.
Since, McCauley is an older part of Edmonton and most of the community was put together in the early 1900's there are still immigrant influences. There are two areas, which people can enjoy another cultures creation. First there is a type of little Italy, and secondly there is a small Chinatown. It may not be New York City, but the diversity is there to enjoy.
Obviously, one must like the inner city feel to truly appreciate McCauley distinct features. However, the overall appeal is respectable. One is very close to the downtown core, plus one is out of the complete hustle and the bustle of the commerce. McCauley has a strong diversity aspect with many different religious groups and also a little Ital and Chinatown. McCauley might be an inner city community, but it has a one of a kind uniqueness to it.
