High Park is a great place to raise a family as most houses are single family dwellings with a significant number of dwellings being owner occupied. Duplex, triplex and fourplex dwellings are a minority and are all rentals. There are also apartment buildings that are fewer than five storeys available for rental. A significant portion of the residences of High Park were constructed between the late 1940s (and 1970.
This coincides with the boom in world population after World War II where the need for housing solutions increased. It was for this reason that High Park became a part of Edmonton when the Town of Jasper Place combined with Edmonton in August 1964 as the municipality could not handle the rapid increase in population. There is only one neighborhood school, High Park Elementary which offers quality education to ones children. Other schools are located in the neighboring communities such as the Youngstown Elementary School and Britannia Junior High School in Britannia; Brightview Elementary School in Canora; Mayfield Elementary School in Mayfield; and the McQueen Public School in McQueen. These are operated by the Edmonton Public School system.
While the Edmonton Catholic School System operates St. Luke Catholic School (Britannia), Holy Cross Elementary Junior High School (Canora), Our Lady Of Peace Catholic Elementary School (Mayfield), Archbishop MacDonald High School and St. Gregory Catholic School (McQueen). Edmonton Christian School and Edmonton Menorah Academy are also operated in McQueen. Close to High Park, in the neighborhood of Mayfield there are several parks which offer recreation for the family. These are Mayfield Park, Otto Leslie Park, Patrick J. Ryan Park, and Phoebe Mccullough Park.
