Greenfield (Petrolia), a residential neighborhood, is situated in the south-west part of Edmonton. It is interesting to know that the official name of this neighborhood is “Greenfield”. However, some residents prefer to call it Petrolia. One can find all the basic amenities in the residential neighborhood of Greenfield such as shopping centre, hospitals and educational institutions.
There is a small shopping centre, which is called Petrolia shopping centre, is situated in the neighborhood of Greenfield. The residential neighborhood of Greenfield was named after Herbert Greenfield. Herbert Greenfield was a leader of United Farmers Party and Premier of Alberta from 1921 to 1925.
The main residential and commercial construction development work was started between the 1960s and 1980s. Mostly, the residents of the neighborhood of Greenfield prefer single family dwelling. Only a few residents of the neighborhood of Greenfield are going towards duplexes and apartments. Additionally, half of the apartments and duplexes are on the rental basis.
The neighborhood of Greenfield is very rich, educational wise. There are 3 majors is schools in Greenfield. The First is Greenfield public School, which is operated by the Edmonton public school system. The Second one is St. Stanislaus Catholic Elementary School, which is operated by Edmonton Catholic School System. Along with this, there is Academy of Science and Mathematics, which is located in Petrolia shopping centre.
Along with the Petrolia shopping centre, the residents of the neighborhood of Greenfield can easily access 111 Street to Southgate Centre. The constructional work is going on for the new south LRT extensions, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2009. After the completion of this construction work, residents of the Greenfield can get access to the new LRT station, Century Park and Southgate via 111 Street. The financial condition of the residents of the neighborhood of Greenfield is generally higher than the average household income of the rest part of Edmonton city.
