Empire Park, a residential community, is situated in the southwest of Edmonton. A number of major shopping centers like Southgate Centre is also situated in the West part of the neighborhood.
The neighborhood of Empire Park is bounded with Whitemud Drive in the south, 111 Street on the west, 51 Avenues on the north and Calgary Trail on the east. One can get access to popular destination in the West Edmonton like West Edmonton Mall via Whitemud drive. If you want to visit the south part of the city, including the Edmonton International airport then, you can access it via Calgary Trail. Additionally, you can access, Whyte Avenue, the downtown core and University of Alberta, via 111 Street.
The neighborhood of the Empire Park was not developed this much before. The major development and the construction work were started here in the late 1960s or early 1970s. Mostly, the residence of Empire Park and outsiders prefer rented apartment here. Most of the buildings in Empire Park is two to five stories. Along with the rented apartment, buyers are also showing their interest in order to purchase the separate penthouse and row houses.
However, you can find very few duplexes and single family dwelling type of apartments. Currently, the construction work is going on in the neighborhood of Empire Park, which is supposed to get completed by the end of 2009. After the completion of the construction work, the neighborhood of Empire Park will be served the Southgate LRT station.
In the neighborhood of Empire Park, there are 2 major schools. The first one is L. Y. Cairns School and the 2nd one is McKee Elementary School.
The surrounding neighborhoods include; Pleasantview, Rideau Park, Lendrum Place, Malmo Plains and Royal Gardens.
