Ebbers Educational Facilities: Lots of Schools Within Easy Reach

There are several schools within just a few minutes’ drive of Ebbers. Kirkness School to the east is a public elementary school that serves children from Kindergarten to grade six. The school hosts a variety of programs to promote learning, including two literacy intervention programs, a social skills development program, and a daily physical education class. Older students participate in a character development class based on Dr. Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Steele Heights Junior High is located in McLeod Park, about 3 kilometers west of Ebbers. Serving grades 7 to 9, this school of 450 students strives to create a safe, caring environment where students can participate in programs like athletics, music, drama, career and technology studies, and languages like French and Spanish. The school also offers an Academic Challenge program designed to prepare students for high school AP and IB programs. Directly adjacent the Londonderry Arena sits the M.E. Lazerte School, a grade 10-12 high school that offers a variety of career preparation courses in addition to its standard academic subjects. M.E. Lazerte School has a full athletic department featuring badminton, basketball, cross country, football, rugby, golf, volleyball, wrestling, and more. The school also has an apprenticeship program and an IB program.

The Ebbers area is home to a variety of restaurants at several price points. Just across from Ebbers Boulevard in the Manning Town Centre, residents will find a Boston Pizza and a Chili’s Texas Grill. Just down the highway at the corner of Highway 15 and 137th Ave, there are a variety of other restaurants to choose from, including Joey’s Seafood, The Elegant Court, Smitty’s Family Restaurant and even Acqua Marina, a fine dining restaurant serving Italian food.

The Ebbers area is served by the 184 and 380 bus routes, which connect transit users to outlying communities like Quarry Ridge as well as major amenities like the Alberta Hospital and the Clareview LRT station. From the Clareview LRT station, Ebbers residents can access 18 different bus routes via the nearby transit loops or head to the LRT area and take the Capital Line to Downtown Edmonton, the University of Alberta, Belgravia, Century Park, and several other destinations.

Ebbers Demographics: An Industrial Area with Residences Nearby

The Ebbers area itself reports as unpopulated on the Edmonton Census, as it is an industrial area that is home to a variety of businesses. However, the bordering communities of Miller and Kirkness are residential neighbourhoods. As of the 2012 municipal census, Miller reported just over 3,000 residents living in just over 1,100 dwellings. Two thirds of Miller residences are single-family dwellings, and 86% of homes are owner occupied. Kirkness had a population of 3,700 people in 1,400 dwellings. 55% of Kirkness homes are single-family units, while another 28% are low-rise apartments. 63% of dwellings in Kirkness are owner-occupied, while 37% are rented.
