How to Create a Staycation That Feels Like a Real Holiday
Have you ever thought about taking a staycation but do not know how to do it? Staycations have become a popular way of unwinding while saving on time, travel, and money. If you only have a couple of days off or a limited budget, staycations can make you feel like you’re on vacation without actually going anywhere. There are some challenges to taking a staycation. It can be hard to fully disconnect and relax if you are still surrounded by the things that fall into your regular routine. It’s easy to get up, make breakfast and notice all of the chores that need your attention. Suddenly you’re caught up in the same routine you’re normally in and your few days off disappear without any real rest and relaxation. Here are some tips to help your staycation feel more like a real holiday:
Clear Your Schedule
Switch up your usual routine. Staycations aren’t the time to book all those appointments or work on your renovation projects. Make sure the days you set aside for your staycation are free and clear of any responsibilities. You can even take a break from cooking by ordering a fancy meal to be delivered or hanging out on your city’s top new patio. Another great way to feel like you’re on vacation is to have your home professionally cleaned. Have someone come in and do the chores for you! You’ll feel like you’re in a nice hotel instead of your own home.
Log Off
Do you work from home or have your office email on your phone? Log Off. This can be super hard to do but it’s absolutely essential to feel like you’re on holiday. It’s really easy to accidentally open your email or walk into your home office to check something out on your computer and see something work related. As soon as your staycation starts, make sure to close and log off of anything work related. Put on your “out of office” and fully let it go for a few days. Close every work-related tab on your computer so you don’t get caught up with them when you go to check out that fun new recipe online or the hours for your local museum.
Be A Tourist in Your Own City
You may be surprised to know this but most locals have never toured their own cities! Your staycation is a great opportunity to check out the local museum, take a boat or a bus tour, check out whatever your area has to offer and find out more about where you live. You could even buy local souvenirs, just like you would if you were touring a new city. Make a plan for the day and go be a tourist in your own town!
Choose Activities You Wouldn’t Normally Do
The most important thing to do to make your staycation feel like a real holiday is to do things you wouldn’t regularly do. Even if it’s as simple as mixing yourself up a fruity drink and sitting in your own backyard. If you don’t do it on a daily basis, it’ll help you disconnect and relax. Regardless of where you are, there is always something new to explore. It could even be checking out a nearby hiking trail you’ve been interested in or spending the day at the local spa. Whatever it may be, your staycation is a great time to do that thing that you’ve always wanted to do but have never done.
Try it out! Take a staycation and explore your own town. Make sure that you take some time to treat yourself. Just because you’re staying close to home, doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy some of the fun things you would normally do on vacation. You’ll save money, won’t need to deal with travel delays and other hassles, and you’ll get to know your own city. You won’t even need to pack!
