One of the new residential neighborhoods in south west Edmonton is Blackmud Creek. The Heritage Valley area borders the community to the south and west. The neighborhood is bounded on the west by the James Mowat Trail, and on the north by Ellerslie Road. To the east and south, the neighborhood overlooks the Blackmud Creek Ravine.
Situated nearby are the neighborhoods of MacEwan, Richford, Blackburne, Rutherford and Callaghan.
Blackmud Creek is a neighborhood that developed after the 2001 federal census so currently information on this neighborhood is sketchy at best.
The most common type or residence in the neighborhood is the single family dwelling. The remaining residences are duplexes and apartment style condominiums in low rise buildings with fewer than five stories. Substantially all residences in the neighborhood are owner occupied. There is a K to 9 Public school and a K to 9 Catholic School currently under construction in the neighboring community of Rutherford. Both schools are scheduled to open in September 2010. The Victory Christian School in neighboring MacEwan provides an option for education for one’s children.
For recreation, residents can travel to the Ellerslie Rugby Park located in Richford.
Other communities in the area include; Allard, Blackburne, Chapelle and Rutherford
