Blackburne is an irregularly shaped neighbourhood in south west Edmonton. It is a newer neighbourhood whose south west boundary overlooks the Blackmud Creek Ravine. It borders on Anthony Henday Drive to the north and by Calgary Trail to the east.
A small portion of the neighbourhood extends across Blackmud Creek to 111 Street in the west. All residential construction in Blackburne occurred after 1990. The most common type of residence in the neighbourhood is the single family dwelling. Duplexes are the next most common. The remaining residences are divided almost equally between row houses and apartment style condominiums in low rise buildings with fewer than five stories.
Substantially all residences in the neighbourhood are owner occupied. Blackburne is surrounded by the communities of Twin Brooks, Bearspaw, MacEwan and Richford. The Heritage Valley Area is located to the south and Ellerslie Area is to the south east and west. George P. Nicholson Elementary School is situated in Twin Brooks. . The neighbourhood has easy access to South Edmonton Common which is to the north east. West Edmonton Mall is only a few minutes away via the highway. The Ellerslie Rugby Park is located in Richford.
