Beaspaw is surrounded by residential neighborhoods. Skyrattler is located to the northwest, Keheewin to the north, South Edmonton Common to the north east and east, the Ellerslie Area to the south east, Blackburne to the south, MacEwan to the south west and Twin Brooks to the west.
The neighborhood is bounded on the west by Blackmud Creek Ravine, to the south by Anthony Henday Drive, and to the east by Calgary Trail/Gateway Boulevard. The north boundary is located approximately half a block south of 18 Avenue. Calgary Trail provides access to destinations south of the city including the Edmonton International Airport. Gateway Boulevard provides access to Old Strathcona, the University of Alberta, and the downtown core. Anthony Henday Drive provides access to destinations in west Edmonton including West Edmonton Mall. This mall offers a unique experience as it is one of the largest shopping malls in North America.
Whilst there are no schools in Bearspaw, the beighbouring communities offer options that range from elementary schools to tertiary institutions.The Taylor University College and Seminary is located in nearby Skyrattler. The Keheewin Elementary School is located in Keheewin. MacEwan has only one school the Victory Christian School.
The Kinsmen Twin Arena, a recreational area is in the Keheewin. Most of the residential construction in Bearspaw occurred during the 1980s. It was at this time that just over four out of every of all residences were built. Bearspaw’s development began in the 1970s with a small number of houses. Residential development in the neighborhood was substantially complete by 1990.
The single family dwelling is the most common type of residence in the neighborhood. Duplexes and row houses account for the remainder house type. Almost all the homes within Bearspaw are owner occupied.
