There are six schools in this area: Glendale Elementary School and Westland Junior High School are operated by Edmonton Public Schools. St. Thomas More Junior High is run by the Edmonton Catholic School District. As well as these, there are Britannia A M I Montessori School and Crestwood Montessori School for the smaller children and Meadowlark Christian School.

Glenwood is bounded on the North by Stony Plain Road and on the South by 95 Avenue. The east side is bounded by 156 Street and 170 Street on the west. The Edmonton Transit System’s Jasper Place Terminal is found in the north eastern corner. This is possibly the site of a much anticipated expansion of the light train system. This will provide an expansion of the existing public transport network.

Glenwood is neighbour to several other communities of Edmonton. These include Terra Losa, Summerlea, Britannia, Youngstown, Meadowlark Park, West Jasper Place and Sherwood. Sherwood is home to the Meadowlark Health Centre which also serves some of the Glenwood residents. Summerlea is home to the largest shopping mall in North America. This is the West Edmonton Mall. This has nearly a thousand stores in its 3 million square feet. And with its 28 million visitors per year, really needs the car park which can hold up to 20,000 cars.

Glenwood has an ambitious new project to build a cohousing development just south of the Jasper Place Bus Terminal. This will be around 12-18 residential buildings with common facilities and shared areas. Cohousing features extensive use of shared communities with private family areas for the individual families. Cohousing offers its residents to design and maintain their own facilities and have a large amount of say in the way they wish to live their lives.

It is a kind of hippy commune for the new millennium. Seriously though, this may provide a realistic glimpse into our own futures. With global resources becoming so scarce, these kind of ultra modern, high tech, secure, safe and shared communities may be the natural extension of the way we need to live to maximise our resources. Rather than being minimalistic retreats, they can boast a swimming pool, gym and offices, indeed anything that the residents feel they would like to have in their cohousing project. Keep an eye of Glenwood for a vision of the future.
