Blue Quill Estates is a residential neighborhood in south west Edmonton. The neighborhood primarily consists of single family residential homes on spacious lots in a tranquil environment with grand views of the Whitemud Creek Ravine” to the west.
It is bordered by 119 Street on the east and by 23 Avenue on the south. The north boundary is a greenbelt separating Blue Quill Estates from Westbrook Estates located approximately one and a half blocks north of 29 Avenue. Other bordering neighborhoods include Ogilvie Ridge to the northwest, Sweet Grass to the northeast, to the south east is Skyrattler, Twin Brooks is north and Hodgson is immediately west.
Just over half of the residences in Blue Quill Estates were built during the 1970s. Most of the remainder was built during the 1980s. A small number predate the 1970s and a minority was built during the 1990s.
The most common type of residence in the neighborhood is the single family dwelling. These account for just under half of all the residences in Blue Quill Estates. Another one in three residences are rented apartments in low rise buildings with fewer than five stories. The remaining residences are duplexes and row houses. Fewer houses are rented than are owner occupied.
Due to the secluded layout of the neighborhood it has proved to be one of the safest and private neighborhoods in the city.
Located in the adjoining neighborhood of Westbrook Estates is the exclusive Derrick Golf and Winter Club, founded in 1959. The club provides its members with "golf, tennis, indoor aquatic center, childcare, curling, badminton, large fitness center, two studios, and an outdoor volleyball court", as well as access to outdoor ski trails and an outdoor skating rink. Whitemud Creek and Blackmud Creek ravines offer opportunities for all season outdoor recreation in a natural setting.
