Cold As Hell...

The only place in the world that was colder then Edmonton Alberta Canada on December 13, 2009 was Siberia. With the wind chill the temperature reached a frosty -59 degrees Celsius or -79 degrees Fahrenheit.
It was one of the coldest nights of the year and many in Edmonton had to endure a blackout that lasted 12 hours. Many in Southeast Edmonton were caught off guard when an underground cable snapped cutting power to thousands of residents.
From 7:00 Sunday night until 7:30 Monday residents were stuck having to bundle up in order to keep warm. In addition to the actual outage, crews also had to contend with several other problems that delayed the repair process.
A Spokesman for EPCOR said that by early Monday all of those affected had power restored to their homes. Many of those 250 affected went to stay with family that had power or just braved the cold in their homes. “This was a cold night for a blackout “the spokesman was quoted as saying.
It is still early to tell if many homes suffered damage or not. It will still be several days before people will know if they suffered any broken pipes or other damage due to the cold. EPCOR's advice to people is to make sure they turn of the main water supply and open up their faucets to allow water to drain and get pressure off of the water lines. After the temperatures warm up it will be safe to turn the main water supply back on and check for any damage.
