St. Albert is a city located in Alberta just northwest of Edmonton firmly resting on the amazing Sturgeon River. It originally become settled as a Métis community and is now considered, with the exception of Edmonton, the largest of the cities in the Edmonton region. The city received its town status back in 1904 and was reportedly reached by the Canadian Northern Railway three years later.

Initially divided from Edmonton by quite a few miles of land which is perfect for farming, the 1980’s extension of the city limits of Edmonton placed St. Albert directly neighboring the larger city on St. Albert’s south and east sides. This is also one of the oldest communities in Edmonton and is reported to be part French and the French traditions and customs can still be witnessed amongst the population; therefore, if you witness French being spoken in the streets of St. Albert remember you’re still in Canada.
The community of St. Albert is very vibrant and the people have spanned from a number of generations which is obvious in the families of the community; not to mention, very proud as well. It becomes even more obvious when you notice the enjoyment and excitement found in this growing community. There isn’t a corner you can turn in St. Albert where there isn’t shops and plenty of things to become involved with. And every shop has a certain French pizzazz in it; however, one of the greatest experiences in all of St. Albert is being able to sit around downtown St. Albert while the Sturgeon River flows around you.
The city of St. Albert is situated only 10 minutes north of the great North Western Edmonton area, making it the ideal extension of the city of Edmonton because a large percentage of the people that reside in St. Albert work in Edmonton. If you’re a traveler of St. Albert from Edmonton International Airport then it would be most appropriate to use the Calgary Trail or Highway 2 in the city. Then there’s the option of newly added Anthony Henday Drive which is designed to loop around the entire city of Edmonton.
The city of St. Albert is one the most beautiful cities in the Edmonton region and many people have fallen in love with Edmonton on account of it. Pictures of St. Albert can be found in magazines, books and all over the Internet. The striking appearance of extraordinary architectural buildings and the amazing Sturgeon River which flows around the entire city is truly breathtaking.
