Sherwood Park is a rural community located on the southeast side of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. The city was first established around 1954/55 on a farmland east of Edmonton called Smeltzer. In 2008, it boasted a population of roughly 59,409 residents which makes the 7th largest city in Alberta. Sherwood Park is viewed as somewhat of hamlet or rural community; however, the government of Alberta identifies the Sherwood Park Urban Service area the same as any other city.

The city of Sherwood Park has a flourishing economy with roughly over $9.0 billion of major projects fulfilled, made known to the public and currently under construction. The roadway known as Refinery Row is firmly situated west of Sherwood Park boasting some of largest industrial facilities in all of Western Canada which includes the Esso Strathcona Refinery.
