Patricia Heights is one of three neighborhoods located in an area of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that is very creatively surrounded by water on virtually all sides. These three neighborhoods that are all situated on the fabulous piece of land also include Rio Terrace and Quesnell Heights. The area of the three neighborhoods can seem to resemble a triangular shape with the North Saskatchewan River and Patricia Ravine surrounding it.

Only to the North can access to Whitemud Drive be located. Patricia Heights is located west of 156 Street. Quesnell Heights is located east of 149 Street. Rio Terrace is located between 149 Street and 156 Street. These three special communities share all interests and feelings of belonging and welcome in their area “away” from the rest of Edmonton.
There is limited access to the neighborhoods by land vehicle. North of the area there are two bridges located over Whitemud Drive, one at 156th Street and at 159th Street. The bridge on 159th Street provides easy access to West Edmonton Mall and the Southside, including: Fort Edmonton Park, the University of Alberta, and Whyte Avenue. Laurier Park and the Valley Zoo are both located within the neighborhood of Laurier Heights immediately to the north of Quesnell Heights.
The Edmonton Transit System provides bus service for residents to both West Edmonton Mall and the University of Alberta. In addition service is available for high school students attending both Jasper Place High School and St. Francis Xavier Height School. Both schools are located across the bridges.
There are only a few apartment buildings on the Eastern side of Patricia Heights. Outside of the few apartments the entire area is single family homes. This provides a unique environment, with no businesses in the area. The development of these homes slowly started in the 1950’s. It was not until the 1960’s the Rio Terrace blossomed. Quesnell Heights and Patricia Heights did not start development until the 1960’s. The majority of the residents own the home they live in, while few rent, except for in the apartments.
There is only one community league for all three neighborhoods. Since they are all close in connection with each other, they seem to all have the same goals in mind for the development and structure of the area.
Within the three neighborhoods there are only two schools. Both schools are operated by the Edmonton Public School System. There is a Catholic System school to the North in Lynnwood, Our Lady of Victories Elementary School. There are not any junior high or senior high schools located within the three neighborhoods.
In addition to the Patricia Ravine to the Southwest, the three neighborhoods are blessed with a number of parks. At the West end of Rio Terrace is Rio Park, which contains a playground for neighborhood children. Along the South edge of Rio Terrace is Rio Terrace Park overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley. There is a small park located near the center of Quesnell Heights.
There is one church, the Rio Terrace Moravian Church, located near the center of Rio Terrace. The Jewish Community Centre of Edmonton is located at the south end of 156th Street near the river valley between Rio Terrace and Patricia Heights.
Additional pedestrian access is provided by a bike trail through the Patricia Ravine and several pedestrian overpasses over Whitemud Drive. The bike trail connects Patricia Heights to the neighborhood of Westridge to the Southwest. Pedestrian overpasses connect Quesnell Heights to Laurier Heights and Patricia Heights to the neighborhood of Elmwood to the North.
