Fraser is a neighborhood that is mostly residential and located on the northeast side of Edmonton. There are both an elementary school and a community hall that share the same name and are located at the heart of this neighborhood. The community was named after John Fraser.
John Fraser was one of the original settlers in the area and an original trustee at the Belmont School. The neighborhood has recently expanded to the east and has since had more land taken up through the expansion.
More than half of the residences in this neighborhood are single family homes. There are approximately the same number of rented houses, duplexes and row houses that make up the remaining residences. There are no apartments that are located in buildings that are higher than three stories. The majority, nearly 80% of the residents are home owners while the remaining are renters.
The majority of the homes in the neighborhood were built during the 1980’s. There were some homes that were built prior to 1980 with the majority of these being in the 1970’s and a few other houses that were built in the 1990’s.
