According to the 2001 federal census, all of the residential construction in the neighbourhood took place after 1995. According to the 2005 municipal census, all of the residences in the neighbourhood are single family dwellings. Substantially all of the residences are owner occupied with only 1% being rented.

The neighbourhood is bounded on the north west by Lessard Road, on the south west by 184 Street. The north east boundary is located half a block south west of 53 Avenue. To the east the neighbourhood overlooks the North Saskatchewan River valley and to the south it overlooks Wedgewood ravine.
Because of the close proximity of the ravine, building work in this area has to be considered with a great degree of close scrutiny to the land stability. The type of work required needs a high degree of engineering know-how and before anything can be planned a large number of hydrogeological and geotechnical surveys have to be carried out.
The river ravine contains a great deal of wildlife and many different habitats. Here there are over 70 species of birds and small mammals. These include hawks, owls, woodpeckers, weasels, moles, skunks and beavers.
Wedgewood ravine is a beautiful, quiet, well-kept, architecturally controlled community of 465 homes in South West Edmonton. The community offers many amenities to its residents. They have many kilometers of paved and well kept shale pathways in the trees for outdoor enthusiasts such as walkers, cyclists and campers. There are tennis and basketball courts for summer recreation. There are plenty of playground areas for children of all ages and open fields for all types of recreation. There is a Gazebo, fountain, and fire pit in the park for those family get togethers.
The community is very attractively situated on the southwest edge of Edmonton with easy access to the Airport and the rest of the city. The brick fence lined streets are very inviting as you drive through the neighbourhood.
The area is well serviced by Edmonton Transit for those inclined to use public transit. The community is serviced by a volunteer board, which meets eight to ten times a year to direct the use of a yearly levied fee on each home of roughly $200. One of the events that the board organises is known as ‘Light up Wedgewood’. This is an annual celebration in December where the community congregates one Sunday to enjoy sleigh rides, fireworks, games for the kids, hot dogs and refreshments, and enjoy the sounds of Christmas and getting together with the neighbours.
