Baranow is a small friendly neighbourhood in the beautiful Castledowns area in north Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The area has some commercial development at the south end of the neighbourhood following along 137 Avenue. This area underwent a slight redevelopment before the 1996 construction boom. The primary development of the neighbourhood, in general occurred in two main periods. The first period occurred between just after the end of World War II and the early 1960's, during which about one in eight residences were constructed. The second major construction period occurred after 1996 when the remaining residences were constructed, along with the nearby business redevelopments.

The neighbourhood has a slightly 'L' shaped form to it, being a little wider at the southern end. The southern boundary is 137 Avenue, while the northern boundary is 153 Avenue, and the western boundary is 127 Street. The eastern boundary follows a line which is located half a block west of 123 Street between 140 Avenue and 153 Avenue, but at 140 Avenue, the boundary turns east until it reaches about to 121 Street. At that point, it turns south again until it reaches the join of the southern boundary at 137 Avenue.
The typical household in Baranow is small and young, with the average residence having only 1.5 persons. Just under half , have only one person. The majority of the remaining residences are couples and small families. 40.0% of the households have two persons, and the remaining dwellings have three persons or more. The most common type of residence is the neighbourhood are apartments in low rise buildings with fewer than five stories, many of which are from the WWII era and have some very interesting facades.
These apartment homes, which range from basic to upscale account for almost three out of every four of all residences in the neighbourhood. About two out of three are rental units, with the remainder being owner occupied condominiums, ranging from standard styles to some luxury units. Property values among the condominiums are very high and stable. Most of the remaining homes are located in duplexes, with almost eight out of ten of duplexes being owner occupied.
