The Alberta Avenue neighborhood is among one of the older residential areas in Edmonton. A majority of the development within the Alberta Avenue neighborhood took place during the time of the First World War. Bordering the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue on the north is 122 Avenue, which was once known as Woodward Avenue. On the west side, the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue is bordered by 97 Street, which was also changed from Namayo Avenue. 111 Avenue on the south side of the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue was once known as Norwood Boulevard, and bordering the east side is 89 Street or Fox Street.

Nearby the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue is Delton to the north and north east. The communities of Westwood and Spruce Avenue are located to the west of the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue. Central McDougall is not far away to the south west, with McCauley being located to the south and south east, and Eastwood and Parkdale located just to the east of the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue. The neighborhood of Alberta Avenue was previously a low income area.
Today the neighborhood of Alberta Avenue is seeing increasing redevelopment and revitalization, transforming it into a destination for the arts community. This was also the case with Whyte Avenue neighborhood in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.
